Social Studies Department
AP Summer Institute
June 13-14, 2017
If you have requested an AP Social Studies class for the 2017-2018 school year AP Boot Camp is your summer assignment!
What is AP Boot Camp?
Boot Camp is an interactive leadership conference where students discuss and practice the qualities required for success in college and in the corporate world. This event will focus on developing five attributes: teamwork, communication, organization, reading, and problem solving.
This program is for students that have taken numerous AP classes, as well as those who are just starting.
Boot Camp has four goals:
- Introduce students to the unique academic challenges of AP Social Studies courses.
- Guide students in skill development with focus on teamwork, communication, organization, reading, and problem solving.
- Discuss the practical application of these skills inside and outside the classroom.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop a support network with their peers.
HOW PHYSICAL ARE THE EVENTS?
Most events will take place indoors and require less physical than mental effort. Nevertheless, students with health issues (heart conditions, asthma, physical disabilities, etc.) are exempt from all physical events. Please notify us if you have concerns.
What IF I am Going to be out of Town?
All AP Social Studies students are encouraged to participate. Students that are going to be out of town or cannot get off work can complete a packet for equal credit. The packet includes a summer reading assignment and will be submitted the first day of school. Please be advised that most students find boot camp more fun and less time consuming than the packet. The Summer Reading Packets can be found by clicking the links to the left for your subject.
